Being busy has become a new social status. It’s a very competitive space but who’s really winning?
When asking, or being asked, how are you? The answer these days is all too often, “Really busy”. Personally I usually follow up with “mostly busy doing good stuff”.
I’ve found myself questioning my effectiveness more often of late, and I think that’s because I’m very busy doing stuff but I don’t give myself as much time to reflect on what I’ve actually got done. What have I achieved?
In an attempt to combat that I’ve started a monthly rating system for my own life. I’m using the three pillars of our focus at Evalesco which is empowering our community to be healthy, wealthy and happy.
To me health is about physical wellbeing, getting regular exercise, being physically active and feeling good. Wealth is my progress toward my financial goals, as well as my effectiveness in the business world. Happiness, on this scale, is about my mental wellbeing and particularly my relationships with family and friends. With a young family the time spent together is so important to me, and the kids, but this is the area that can suffer the most easily with busy-ness.
Being on holidays for much of January I scored well in health and happiness, but wealth was a bit lower. I had pretty good balance in February, but let health and happiness slip in March. It is hard to balance all of the competing prioities but I find rating them makes me think about each important aspect of my life and look at ways of improving next month.
I’ve decided it’s OK to be busy as long as I am, truly, busy doing the right things.

Note: Yes this is a shot of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West that one of our team happened to shoot whilst they were visiting New York. Looks busy doesn’t it!
